Test the template with your real content

Replace sample text with your longest employer name, an actual job title and a typical project bullet. Check whether the layout still works. A template that looks balanced with short placeholder text may break when it contains your experience.

Use editable text for essential information. Skills bars, logos and decorative timelines can take space without explaining what you did. Keep a separate portfolio for work that benefits from visual presentation.

Build a reusable skeleton

Start with contact details, a brief summary if useful, experience, education and skills. Add projects, certifications or publications only when they strengthen the application. Keep headings and date formats consistent.

Write each experience entry with the employer, actual title and dates, followed by a few relevant contributions. Keep a longer private master document so you can select evidence for different applications without rebuilding the layout.

Check the export instead of trusting a badge

An ATS-friendly badge is not evidence that a template was tested in every employer configuration. Greenhouse documents several formatting conditions that can cause parsing issues; use those as concrete things to inspect.

Export the finished document, verify selectable text and inspect page breaks. A plain-text copy is a useful diagnostic but not a substitute for reviewing the actual application fields. Keep the editable original and the exact submitted file.
