Mechanical Engineer Resume: SolidWorks, GD&T & Validation Keywords ATS Needs

GD&T

Design-release ME reqs treat GD&T as high-signal (ASME Y14.5) on automotive and regulated product filters. Scores with tolerance stack-ups or supplier drawing approval. “Familiar with GD&T” without applied examples is weak against candidates who show tolerance decisions.

DFMEA

Regulated product and automotive ATS match DFMEA / FMEA as validation tokens. Tie to risk reduction, RPN improvements, or gate reviews. Do not list DFMEA without failure-mode, severity, or detection language—that looks like keyword paste to eng managers.

FEA

Analysis-leaning ME postings filter FEA (ANSYS, NASTRAN, SolidWorks Simulation when named). Pair with stress/thermal results or pass-rate impact. Claiming FEA for hand calculations or unsupported “simulation” misaligns analysis-heavy JDs.

HVAC, power electronics, and thermal ME reqs match thermal analysis explicitly. Tie to simulation tool and design decisions that changed geometry or materials. Do not substitute vague “simulation experience” when the JD says thermal analysis.

BOM

Release-discipline roles match BOM ownership / structure on ME ATS scorecards. Spell part numbers and revision in plain text bullets. BOM metadata buried only in portfolio images does not score—parsers cannot extract screenshot captions.

ECO

Engineering change roles filter ECO / change control language heavily. Higher score with ECO numbers, disposition, or supplier impact you drove. Vague “supported design changes” without ECO under-matches release-heavy automotive and industrial postings.

PPAP

Automotive and supplier quality ATS treat PPAP as a hard filter when listed (Levels 1–5). Tie to submission level or customer approval timelines. Do not claim PPAP for non-automotive consumer product roles unless the JD explicitly asks for production part approval.

DVP&R

Validation-heavy automotive and product ME reqs match DVP&R / test plan language. Pair with pass rates, cycle time, or issue closure you owned. Listing DVP&R without test or validation depth is a common stuffing flag after ATS passes you to human review.
