Inspect the export

Open the exact PDF or DOCX you plan to submit. Check that text is selectable, contact details are visible and job entries have sensible page breaks. Ensure the file is not simply a scan of a printed document.

Follow the upload instructions for accepted formats and size. Greenhouse documents parsing problems with image-based files and some complex formatting; this is a concrete reason to inspect the document rather than trust the editor view.

Check text order and labels

Copy the document text into a plain-text editor as a diagnostic. Look for columns interleaving, missing characters or contact information absent from the main text. This does not reproduce every parser, but it can reveal obvious export problems.

Use clear headings and consistent date formats. If you simplify a layout, compare the result with the original to ensure you did not lose content. Keep portfolio visuals separate when they are not needed in the resume itself.

Review the application after upload

Check fields populated from the resume, especially your email, employers, job titles and dates. Correct errors when the form allows it. Answer application questions accurately and attach any additional requested documents.

A successful upload means the file was accepted, not that you have passed an employer selection stage. Keep a copy of the submitted file and any confirmation for your own records.
