FP&A analyst resume: example bullets and ATS keywords
Financial planning and analysis roles sit between finance and the rest of the business. Hiring managers want to see that you can build a forecast, explain the variance and help a budget holder make a decision. Your CV has to show all three, in language an applicant tracking system can match to the job description.
Keywords to mirror from the advert
Only use the ones you can back up: financial planning and analysis, budgeting, forecasting, rolling forecast, variance analysis, budget vs actual, three-statement model, driver-based model, scenario analysis, month-end close, management accounts, KPI reporting, business partnering, Excel (INDEX/MATCH, pivot tables, Power Query), Power BI or Tableau, SQL, Anaplan, Adaptive Planning, Hyperion, SAP or Oracle.
Example bullets
- Built a driver-based rolling forecast for a £[X]m cost base, cutting the monthly reforecast from [X] days to [X].
- Produced monthly budget-vs-actual packs for [X] budget holders and explained the main variances in a one-page commentary.
- Partnered with the sales director to model pricing scenarios, informing the annual operating plan.
- Automated management reporting in Power Query and Power BI, replacing [X] manual spreadsheets.
- Supported year-end budgeting across [X] cost centres, reconciling to the general ledger.
Replace every [X] with your real figure. If you can't share an exact number, use a range or describe the scope instead.
FP&A vs financial analyst
Many adverts use both titles. FP&A roles lean on forecasting, budgeting and business partnering; broader financial analyst roles may also cover investment analysis or valuation. Use the title and the terms from the specific advert you're applying to, rather than one generic CV for both.
ATS tips
- Keep a single column and standard headings so the parser can read your history.
- Put tools in a plain Skills line, and also mention them in the bullet where you used them.
- Write acronyms in full at least once: "financial planning and analysis (FP&A)".
- Spell out qualifications such as ACCA, CIMA or ACA, and note "part-qualified" or "finalist" if that applies.
